I wasn't 100% sure what to expect but I found the Flower Power Cruise experience delightful. Though, I was exhausted after multiple 16-hour days of non-stop activity. During many of the Flower Power performances, I was surprised to find how relevant the music of the '60s is for us today. Musical performances, game shows, and educational presentations were available non-stop through the 5 p.m.

If you ask David Coffin, he will tell you that most people don’t understand the full scope of maritime music. “They think it’s just sea shanties, but those are a very specific kind of song … rhythmic songs that [crew members] would sing on ships while they were working,” said the New Haven native. “People are enamored with lighthouses, and on this two-hour cruise, we show them four lighthouses and one surprise lighthouse,” said Coffin, who said there will be a musical component to the cruise.

My partner and I were fortunate to get a spot on the Flower Power Cruise, a '60s-musical-themed experience, when cancellations gave those on the waitlist the opportunity to secure a cabin on the sold-out cruise. StarVista Live, the company that organizes the Flower Power Cruise, chartered an entire Celebrity Summit ship for the event. Besides music, you'll find 60s and 70s-music themed activities, such as trivia, wine tastings, a vow renewal with musician/producer Peter Asher, panel discussions and game shows.
